Textile Tuesday: Lets Talk Washing
Did You Know That Our Quilted Pieces Are 100% Cotton?
Lets talk about it...
First let's talk about the fibre itself. Cotton is a naturally derived fibre that comes from the cotton plant. These fibres are actually produced by the plant to protect the seed during growth. Cotton is usually picked by hand and has been used for centuries in clothing production. The fibres are harvested, cleaned, combed and spun into threads that are then woven together to make our products.
Awesome, but how do we properly take care of these pieces so that they will last forever?
Always wash your cotton garments in cold water, especially ours so the vibrant dyes in the fabric do not fade or bleed. Cold wash cycles also prevent cotton from shrinking and keeps the structural integrity of the fibers. Opt for gentler detergents and wash with other soft things (ie with no hardware). This will prevent the fibres from getting weaker and breaking down faster.
Okay, Washing Check, What About Drying?
Air drying our items will help keep their structure, which is especially important for our bags. Line drying or flay, just keep them out of direct sun to prevent fading while drying. IF the dryer is needed tumble dry low and take it out right away so no deep wrinkles get set into your piece.
Lastly, storing your pieces in a cool and dry place when not in use.
Cotton is great because it is naturally hypo-allergenic, and moisture wicking so it's perfect for all seasons. There is the added benefit that once the pieces have finished their life they can be recycled or will break down naturally in the earth.
